Liberty GM Jonathan Kolb named WNBA Executive of the Year

Joining us today on Game On from Las Vegas is the New York Liberty General Manager.
Jonathan Cole.
Jonathan.
thanks so much for hanging out with us.
Yeah.
no.
thank you.
Appreciate it.
Okay.
so first things first.
how’s it been in Vegas?
Being here for the All-Star Weekend.
Awesome.
We have three All-Star.
which is really exciting for our fan base.
I think it’s the first time in like 20 years that we’ve had that many.
So seeing them kind of out and about doing their things.
they’re really exciting.
And then also Las Vegas is just a wonderful job.
I think seeing the WWE live event that they put on was just really impressive.
And so.
just really excited to be here and see what the game turns out to be.
Not just any All-Star.
you have Sabrina and Eskiu here who said a record in the three-point competition.
How was that?
Yesterday.
afterwards.
I don’t think I was telling everybody around me.
I don’t think I really comprehend it.
which she did.
Like.
really.
to miss two shots and make 20 in a row.
Just to his story.
performance really happy for her.
And I just.
you know.
it couldn’t go to a better person.
so really excited for her.
You have one of the best off seasons that ever getting just names like.
you know.
John Cull Jones.
Brianna Stewart.
Courtney VanderSluu.
What went into that strategy to get those players in a New York Liberty uniform?
A lot of days and that sleep was nice.
you know.
I feel like one of the misconceptions about it was it was like an overnight situation when we brought these hired guns.
And it really wasn’t that way.
This is.
this is five years of building.
right?
And setting this up for us to be in a position to create a franchise situation that players want to come to.
When you want to make it.
it’s New York.
right?
It should be a destination.
So it was building that up over time and all the credits to ownership.
They really poured everything into it.
And they listened and they cared.
The care factors really high.
so we did that.
And over time.
you’re over year.
we kind of added to this.
And then we got to a point where we had our cap situation in place where we could go out and attract some really big names.
And we’re fortunate that.
you know.
they wanted to play for us.
And so we’re excited and we’ve got a lot of work to do.
And I think we’ve had a great first half.
We have a lot of work in the second half to get to our goal.
Yeah.
Well.
you have the roster.
you have the fans.
They have been there in Barglays.
What’s next for the New York Liberty?
I think it’s.
I think you said it’s just continuing to build this.
I think the fan base.
the biggest thing is these fans of Interests is 97.
And right now.
I think we’re on pace.
or we’ve matched like the best 18 game start and franchise history at the first original team.
which is really special.
We want to push it more.
The fan base is really special.
They deserve this.
This is for them.
Barglays centers.
a special place to play.
especially with that energy in that building.
And so we just want to keep this going and take it as far as we can.
Amazing.
Well.
thank you so much.
John.
