One death reported after storms leave thousands stranded at Burning Man Festival

They say money can solve all your problems but the attendees stranded at
Nevada’s Burning Man Festival are a reminder that even heaps of cash cannot
get you out of certain disasters.
Tens of thousands of people stuck at the festival have been told to conserve food,
water and fuel.
This comes after heavy rain turned the elite festival’s campsite
to a mud bath.
Vehicular movement on the Playa has now been stopped
leaving attendees stranded in the desert.
These revelers,
more than 70,000
in number,
have spent a fortune to attend
this festival.
The cost can come to thousands of dollars between tickets,
transport,
accommodation,
supplies and costumes.
But before going any further we need to know
what is the Burning Man Festival?
Well every year the nine-day art focused
events see celebrities and tech CEOs in private jets and luxury camps for the
ultra-wealthy,
burners,
as they call themselves,
with enough money nine days
in a remote part of the desert can be rather a glamorous undertaking.
But this year even those who have employed private chefs
are facing a shortage of food as they remain stranded in the desert.
An attendee at the festival said it doesn’t matter how much money you have
nobody can do anything about it.
Nevada’s Black Rock City springs up each year during the Burning Man Festival.
Thousands travel to the remote area and gather in the temporary city
to make art,
dance and enjoy as a community.
But this time the desert saw more than half an inch of raindrop overnight.
Currently there are no operational planes at the temporary metropolis.
Organizers have said that due to the rain the airport is now shut.
Access to and from the site is closed for the remainder of the event.
There are no running buses either as vehicular movement on the playa is
completely prohibited.
Organizers are reassuring that the camp has a lot of supplies but attendees
stuck at the site continue to worry
about the issues surrounding food and sanitation.
The festival usually features giant interactive art installations
and a huge wooden man that is burnt at the end of the event.
This is scheduled to run from the 27th of August till 4th September this year
but most events have been called off as showers and thunderstorms are predicted
in the area over the weekend.
