Statement from President Joe Biden on the Passing of Jimmy Buffett

Sad news from overnight.
Singer Jimmy Buffett,
who inspired millions of fans with hits like
Cheeseburger in Paradise and of course Margaritaville,
has died.
But his music and his legacy live on.
This morning,
the world’s celebrating the life and music of Jimmy Buffett.
A Gulf Coast native and avid sailor,
Buffett alongside his choral reefer band became a
symbol of island escapism.
He began his music career as a country singer in Nashville,
but soon established his easygoing beach bum persona
with tropical hits like Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise.
Buffett building the Margaritaville brand into a business empire
with ventures from record labels to restaurants and casinos to Broadway musicals.
His stake in the brand reportedly worth $180 million.
In 2015,
the singer speaking at the University of Miami commencement
sharing some life advice through his own lyrics.

An absolute legend.
Yeah,
we’ve all been singing those songs this morning.
It’s just incredible too that he didn’t
even start playing music until later in life and yet the music he created has had such an
impact on our culture.
